The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary supports the Coast Guard in its mission to protect public, environmental and economic interests in the nation's ports and along its waterways and coastlines. The men and women of the Auxiliary are non-military volunteers who donate their time and talents to assist the Coast Guard in a variety of roles including vessel safety checks, public education classes and operations. These missions, together with fellowship, are known as the four cornerstones of the Auxiliary.

The Blaine Flotilla's area of responsibility includes the North Whatcom County lakes and rivers as well as the southeastern end of the Strait of Georgia.
