America's Waterway Watch

AWW LogoAmerica's Waterway Watch (AWW) is a public outreach program that encourages participants to report suspicious activities to the Coast Guard and/or other law enforcement agencies. Participants do not have to join an organization or become an agent of the Coast Guard or other law enforcement agency. They merely report suspicious behaviors or activities to law enforcement and are not expected to approach or challenge anyone acting in a suspicious manner. Visit the AWW Website to learn more about this important program.

Citizens' Action Network

USCG CAN observerClosely linked to the AWW is the Citizens' Action Network (CAN).  The CAN member helps the U. S. Coast Guard save lives and property, prevent oil spills, and protect wildlife, all from the comfort of home. The Northwest has an extensive amount of waterways and communities to protect and the Coast Guard needs dependable and proactive volunteers to aid in keeping our waters safe and clean. The CAN program allows residents living near waterways to become associated with the Coast Guard and help conduct its missions by calling on members to help investigate cases such as rescue missions and pollution incidents, which puts volunteers right in the heart of the action. The only requirements for participating are having access to a phone and a marine view from your home. To learn more about the Citizens' Action Network, contact the Flotilla 19 CAN Coordinator or download a CAN Information Brochure.
